Winemakers Notes
A Classified Growth in the Pauillac appellation, Château d'Armailhac is adjacent to Château Mouton Rothschils on the north and west sides. It has 73 hectares (180 acres) of vines with an average age of 46 years. The deep, light gravel soil is planted with traditional Médoc varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The vines are planted at a density of 8,500 to 10,000 per hectare depending on the parcel, the grapes are hand picked and half the wien matured in new oak barrels.
Tasting note
The wine is a deep, crimson-hued red.
The full and expressive nose opens on black fruit aromas with refined touches of roasted coffee-bean. The bouquet becomes more intense with airing, revealing morello cherry aromas and more succulent notes of confectionery.
The rich and structured attack shows perfectly ripe fruit, while the packed and generous mid-palate combines blackcurrant and liquorice flavours, set off by abundant and remarkably well-constructed tannins.
Unfailing freshness underlines the long and harmonious finish.
