Winemakers Note

The history of Giodo in Montalcino begins in 2002, when Carlo Ferrini, one of Italy’s best-known winemakers identified his first hectare to purchase in the prestigious Brunello denomination. However, Carlo Ferrini, who has been travelling to Sicily as a consulting oenologist for over 20 years, could not fall under the irresistible spell of Mount Etna and of its main grape, Nerello Mascalese. Thus began the history of Alberelli di Giodo, with its first vintage in 2016. The red vineyard covers 2ha. Here the 80 to 100years old pre-phylloxera vines co-exist with olive and fruit trees. This red wine is aged 18 months in large 500 and 700-litre oak casks, followed by additional time in concrete
