Glen Goodall, Xanadu’s chief-winemaker described the 2018 ‘yardstick by which such exceptional vintages are remembered’, and boy was he right. It’s taken a few months to come together, but this wine is downright debaucherous in its drinkability. Violets, plum, mulberry, baking-spice and cocoa dust all dazzle around the most sheepishly subtle, but well-tuned tannins that fit the wine like a glove. It’s a glorious release, and in my humble, twenty-20 vision, looks even better now than the famed 2016 Jimmy Watson winning release.
