Matured 19 months in French oak (58% new). Generosity is this wine's middle name, from the ripe, persistent tannins and the black-hearted fruit and spice to the well-laid coffee-mocha oak. Fragrant and complex in dark spice, licorice, nutmeg, blackberry, loamy earth and toasty oak, it goes on to form a solid tannin base on the palate with an impressive intensity. If you can, give it more time in the bottle. Read more

Stuart Knox - The Real Review

" Deep ruby core into a bright purple rim. The nose shows lavender and mountain herbs with black cherries and dry earth underneath. The palate offers plump black fruits and a savoury olive tapenade layer. Fine and dusty tannins give control and length. Reasonable length and dry into the finish"

Tasting Notes

Rated 94 points by Andrew Caillard (MW). COLOUR: Dark purple NOSE: Complex aromas of dark berry fruits, anise, white pepper with hints of cedar and char. PALATE: A medium-bodied and complex wine with luscious raspberry and dark berry fruits, alongside liquorice, white pepper and spicy cedar notes. The palate continues with a generous, sweet-fruit mid palate with mocha oak notes and talc-like tannins providing excellent structure with a lingering persistence of raspberry fruits.

Winemakers Note

The B&V Vineyard was planted in 1992 on micaceous schist soils on the western escarpment of Mt. Barker on the eastern edge of the Adelaide Hills. The hot days influenced by the Murray River plains to the east, and the cold night air drainage from the central Adelaide Hills to the west, create a large diurnal temperature differential through the growing season which suits Shiraz for optimal quality. Two preferred parcels, “Provis” and “Wendouree” selections are chosen for this single vineyard release. These blocks are planted to vines from cuttings taken from these two great vineyards in the Clare Valley that we felt would do well in the dry region of Mt. Barker.
