Crushed-stone and berry aromas with some blackberry and black-tea character. Just a touch of smokiness. Sweet fruit, too. This is so refined, subtle, and beautiful for Pape with full body, ultra-fine tannins and a succulent finish. The center-palate is dense and complete. Goes on for minutes. So subtle and refined, focused and classy. Try after 2026.

95–97. Barrel Sample. Luscious and ripe, this succulent wine is a blend of half Cabernet Sauvignon and half Merlot. There are plenty of young tannins, of course, and a structure that promises aging. The fruit is very fine in dense blackberry flavors and the acidity lends a fresh, lifted aftertaste.

Deep dark ruby colour with an opaque core, purple reflections and a subtle bright rim. Black cherry fruit with a hint of cassis, liquorice, tangerine zest and fine nougat is underlaid with a fine oak note. Juicy, pronounced fruit on the palate and elegant, ripe tannins with a fresh structure. There are ripe cherries on the finish, mineral-salty with very good length and balance. It has a great future ahead of it with sure ageing potential.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. On the nose, nougat and dried plums underlaid with candied orange zest and sea buckthorn. Complex and full-bodied with fine fruit expression, ripe, supporting tannins, savoury notes, elegant and mineral with a long lasting finish. Definite further ageing potential, will benefit from more time in the bottle.
This shows attractive aromas and flavors of chocolate, walnuts, wet earth, mushrooms and berries with full-body, round and refined tannins and a subtle, focused finish. Excellent length, in a sophisticated way. Chewy at the end.

Created by the 14th-century Pope, Clement V, this estate is now owned by Bernard Magrez. This latest release shows the quality of the property, a wine that is set for long aging. Ripe black fruits are matched by the wine's structure and density. Drink from 2026.

94–96. Barrel Sample. This fine wine shows rich tropical fruit balanced by fine acidity. As is normal with this estate, the wine's wood aging characters show, but the rich fruit is perfectly capable of matching the oak in intensity. It will certainly age well.

Continuing the strong performance of Pape Clement over recent vintages. Violet edging around the glass, and a supple tannic hold that both constricts and expands the fruit through the palate, giving a sense of momentum. There is a firm tannic grip, given drama by notes of black pepper and bitter chocolate, and a slate textured finish to slow things down and hold the flavour. Malolactic fermentation in barrels (60%) new, and ageing in both barrels (90%) and larger oak casks. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc are planted in the vineyard, but not yet in the 1st wine. Certified bee-friendly. Tasted twice, two weeks apart, excellent both times.
