Gently lifted, ripe red berries with a greener, leafy thread, too. The tannins have some chew here, giving quite a firm edge to the fruit. Smooth, succulent and lithe feel on the finish.

This is sculpted, with savoury redcurrant and raspberry fruits – again don’t expect the richness of 2015 and 2016 over on the western side of the Médoc. But this is bright, bristling and perky, with good texture and expression. The estate has the same owners as at Château Paloumey, consisting of 3ha of gravel and clay soils. 100% was used in first wine production from a 25hl/h yield. The estate is engaged in organic conversion, as is Paloumey.

The 2017 La Garricq has an open-knit bouquet, fleshy and ripe if missing a little definition. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, rounded and generous, an easy-drinking Moulis that should drink well for four or five years.

The 2017 La Garricq has a soft, slightly muffled bouquet with red plum and crushed strawberry fruit that needs to muster a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly under-ripe tannin on the entry. It fades too quickly, finishing in an attenuated fashion. Early drinking only. Points: 85-87
