Crushed blackberries and violets with raspberries and shitake mushrooms. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a chocolate, hazelnut and berry aftertaste. Extremely well-done second wine. Better after 2022.

The 2017 Le Dragon de Quintus has a fragrant bouquet, quite floral with red berry fruit, red plums, hints of marmalade and oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well judged acidity. This Deuxième Vin has a nonchalance about it. Open and approachable with peppery notes towards the harmonious finish. Delicious.

The entry-level 2017 Château Quintus Le Dragon de Quintus is comprised of 87% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its deep purple color is followed a youthful, pure, elegant wine that has tons of jammy Merlot fruit, lots of minerality, juicy acidity, and a fresh, clean, structured personality.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous
The 2017 Le Dragon de Quintus is plump and racy in the glass, with lovely up-front dark fruit, spice, mocha and leather notes that give the wine so much immediacy and sheer allure. Élevage has done wonders for the 2017, which, from bottle, is richer and deeper than it was from barrel. The bold, ripe style of Quintus comes through nicely in this second wine.
Jane Anson - Decanter
This is a perky wine with a fruit spectrum of black cherry and damson, joined by a vanilla tang. It's well structured with a fresh core for medium drinking. Harvest took place between 14-29 September, yielding 30hl/ha, and frost only affected the third wine from down on the sandier soils, not up on the plateau. There is no second generation fruit in this wine. 3,500 cases for Dragon and 2,500 cases for the grand vin.
James Suckling
A fresh and clean second wine of Quintus. Medium body, fine tannins and a precise finish. Easy and fine.

Like the 2017 grand vin, this is lighter bodied and more forward. It is attractively fruity on the nose and is gentle, round and juicy with a fine tannic frame. Classic in style, balanced and refreshing. Drinking Window 2022 - 2028
Matthew Jukes
This is a sumptuous Dragon with lovely bold fruit and little astringency. The oak is very much in the background providing some detail and savoury touches, but the main game is the delicious, plummy core. 17/20
Winemakers Notes
Château Quintus, a new icon on the Right Bank
Domaine Clarence Dillon purchased a superb Saint-Emilion estate in 2011, then a neighbouring property in 2013 and a third in 2021. These three exceptional vineyards now form a 45-hectare estate that produces one of Saint-Emilion's Grand Vin wines. The Gallo-Romans who planted the vineyards of Saint-Emilion used to name their fifth child Quintus (fifth). Domaine Clarence Dillon has therefore decided to pay tribute to its glorious ancestors by renaming the vineyard Château Quintus.
Le Dragon de Quintus
is the second wine of the estate. The name originates from the dragon statue that towers above the magical terroir of Saint-Emilion, perched high upon the promontory, where the estate is located.
