Neal Martin - Wine Advocate

The 2015 les Grands Chênes is a blend of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a crisp bouquet with blackberry, tar and graphite, well defined and quite elegant in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and good depth of fruit with a clean and precise finish. This is a fine Médoc from Bernard Magrez’s portfolio, and it should drink well for several years. Anticipated maturity: 2020 - 2030.

Jane Anson - Decanter

This is extremely dark in colour and feeling, showcasing the potential of Merlot honed on the left bank. Tight tannins abound, and the fruit is well fleshed out, with clear power underneath. A touch overoaked, meaning the finish is a little abrupt.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

The 2015 Les Grands Chênes is a pretty wine, but it also shows less depth from bottle than it did from barrel. There is good definition to the grilled herb, tobacco, plum and menthol flavors - just not quite the midpalate pliancy or overall persistence I expected. Tasted two times.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider

Utilizing 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is fleshy, round and showing espresso bean, tobacco and cherry characteristics.

James Molesworth - Wine Spectator

Gentle plum and blackberry compote notes glide through easily, infused with a warm tobacco accent. Reveals a light tug of cedar at the very end. Drink now through 2020. 24,667 cases made.  –JM

Steven Spurrier - Decanter

Good fleshy, spicy fruit of good ripeness. Some complexity to come. 2019-2025

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW - Wine Advocate

The 2015 les Grands Chênes is pale to medium garnet-purple in color with a nose of raspberries, dried Mediterranean herbs and tilled soil. Light to medium-bodied, it's relatively soft and fresh in the mouth, if a little light on fruit concentration and finish.

Winemakers Note

The 49-hectare large vineyard of Château Les Grands Chênes is located on the edge of the remains of an ancient fortress from the 16th century. This fortress is the witness of the historical dynamism in the international business trade of the Médoc region. It is in Saint-Christoly-du-Médoc, a town once known for its port,  that the vines of Château Les Grands Chênes are to be found. Ideally planted on a fine ridge of Garonne gravel, Château Les Grands Chênes makes the most of this very high quality terroir. Château Les Grands Chênes, owned by Bernard Magrez, produces a fine wine for those in the know, a privilege for wine lovers who like to make great discoveries.
