Aromas of plums and meat follow through to a medium body, soft and silky tannins and a medium finish. Drink or hold.
Rich round fruit on the nose, spicy plum, gourmet touches of oak, fairly super-charged impact on the attack, the oak is vanilla bean clove and cappucino, with tannins that are chewy and front-of-mouth. Ambition on display, helped by fresh acidity and minerality, will need a few years, and will suit those who prefer a more contemporary gourmet feel. Drink: 2018-2028 (89) 17/20
Pure raspberry and blackberry fruit races along, with a bright iron edge carrying the finish. Fresh and nicely rendered.
87–89. Barrel Sample. Intense acidity masks the lean fruit and severe texture. The tannins are more dominant than the fruit due to a bitter, extractive character. — R.V. (3/30/2015)
Ripe red cherry, smoke, tobacco and savory notes give the 2014 Rahoul its distinctive personality. Drink this exotic, rustic Graves over the next few years, before the fruit loses its intensity
Upfront, quite simple red with ripe plum and dark fruit flavors. Tannins are soft and round without much grip on the mid-palate. Not complex, well made solid wine for near term drinking.
The Château Rahoul 2014 is a blend of 78% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon picked September 30-October 7. Two samples were tasted, one dusty, but the other with easygoing, soft red berry fruit that felt a little jammy. The palate is sweet on the entry with ripe tannin and pointed acidity, but lacking the persistence on the finish.

Tasting Notes
Attractive intense colour. Perfumed and complex on the nose, bursting with liquorice and blackberries and a delicately toasty dimension. The generous palate is expressed through round, silky tannins and lovely freshness which underpins the balanced texture through to the long, savoury finish.
Winemakers Note
A member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and Academie du Vin de Bordeaux, Château Rahoul boasts a great diversity of terroirs. The Château now ranks among the finest of the appellation. The Graves red reveals great finesse and elegance. Painstaking work in the vineyard and constantly updated practices have resulted in the creation of very charming red wines, where the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot enhance fruity, elegant Merlot.
After a promising start to the year, a dull, gloomy summer meant ripening got off to a slow start. Any worries were lifted towards the end of August with the arrival of exceptional, lasting weather conditions.
While the quality of the vintage owes a great deal to the excellent late-season, a vintage of this quality would not be possible without considerable work in the vineyards earlier in the season to ensure pristine quality in the vines and stunning fruit. Summer finally set in August 27th lasting right through until the end of October, kickstarting ripening once again in Château Rahoul’s predominant Merlot, and creating optimum conditions to progress the Cabernets. Pre and post soaking in the lovely red grapes revealed the full potential of the aromas and silky, ripe tannins.
