The colour is red with a touch of brick at the rim. The nose opens to mature notes of forest floor and tobacco but there's red fruit and spice as well. The palate is soft and harmonious still with a freshness and tension imparted by the minerally, granular tannins. It's ready for drinking but will age a while yet.

The Château Le Prieuré 2014 has a commendable bouquet – perhaps conservative vis-à-vis its peers but there is complexity here and nuance, subtle tertiary notes filtering through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent ripe entry. It is medium- rather than full-bodied, focusing on balance rather than power and it is all the better for it. This is a fine Saint Emilion that should age well once in bottle and it may merit a higher score at that point.

Medium-bodied with a touch of oak among the fresh plum notes, this wine is soft, forward and easy to drink. The new partnership with the owners of Chateau Latour certainly made a difference as this is one of the best vintages from this estate in years. 89-91 Pts

The 2014 Le Prieuré is rich, powerful and intense, with notable concentration and a real sense of vibrancy. Smoke, tar, licorice, blue fruits and leather are some of the notes that add complexity through the finish. This pliant, super-expressive St.-Emilion hits all the right notes, with lovely balance and fine-grained tannins that round things out nicely. Points: 89-92
