2013 Rahoul

$419.88
12 x 750ml
The Château Rahoul is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has classic, tertiary bouquet that is mild mannered and does not want to create a fuss. The palate is medium-bodied, soft and approachable with "pillow-y" tannins and plenty of tarry dark fruit on the finish. Not bad for the vintage, although not particularly exciting either. Read more

Wood and tight tannins dominate this wine. It has spice, black currant fruit and intense acidity.

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

A deep ruby/purple color is followed by a wine with ripe fruit, medium body and fresh acids. The 2013 Rahoul is best consumed over the next 7-8 years.

Black-red, good blackcurrant fruit, good depth and tannins should smooth out 16/20

Good, bright, sleek fruit with dusty tannins and a nice black cherry finish. Not very long, but decent and correct. 16/20

Tasting Notes

Deep in colour and tinged with garnet. Fruity aromas, enhanced by smoky nuances typical of these gravel soils, are echoed on the generous palate, with its full tannic structure. Good balance lasts through to the lovely finish.

Winemakers Note

A member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and Academie du Vin de Bordeaux, Château Rahoul boasts a great diversity of terroirs. The Château now ranks among the finest of the appellation. The Graves red reveals great finesse and elegance. Painstaking work in the vineyard and constantly updated practices have resulted in the creation of very charming red wines, where the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot enhance fruity, elegant Merlot.

With a vintage with such changeable weather conditions as 2013, constantly adapting and remaining vigilant was of the essence. Continually monitoring disease pressure in the vineyard, a profound understanding of the vineyard, painstaking canopy management to tame extremely vigorous growth and severe harvest selection proved central to the success of this complicated vintage. The reds, regrettably in limited quantities, are supple and aromatic, and have benefited from new sorting equipment, which optimises the removal of stalk matter before a final sorting by hand on tables.
