Winemakers Notes
Champagne Thiénot, a boutique-house with a human dimension
Champagne Thiénot has been a family adventure since 1985. At that time, Alain Thiénot dared to create his own house, driven by his intimate knowledge of the winegrowers (20 years of experience in champagne grape brokerage) and by the acquisition of prestigious vineyards in Grand Cru and Premier Cru, which became a major source of supply. The fine, fruity and fresh wines reflect a meticulous and artisanal know-how, today supported by his children, Garance and Stanislas, in connivance with the promising cellar master, Nicolas Uriel. Also in search of perfection, curious and open-minded, they breathe their own touch of modernity into the House, while respecting its eminently Champagne style.
La Vigne aux Gamins
is a unique cuvée produced exclusively from a 0,5 ha parcel of vines from Avize, which was planted more than 60 years ago and enjoys an outstanding situation in every way. Each vintage is an indelible stamp of unique Chardonnay expression from an exceptional terroir. Thanks to the great care given to the grapes and to the ‘jetting’ method (where wine displaces oxygen at disgorgement), which they have been using for 10 years and of which they were pioneers, the wines contain very low levels of sulfites. The wine has been aged 11 years in their cellars before being released. It is the supreme expression of Champagne Thiénot’s winemaking expertise.
