Winemakers Notes
Clerc Milon, a legendary terroir, two prestigious neighbours and a providential encounter. The history and the success of Château Clerc Milon, 1855 Grand Cru Classé, are summed up in these three words. The terroir is that of Pauillac, where some of the world’s finest wines are made. Its 41-hectare vineyard is located on the hillside of Mousset, overlooking the Gironde River, and thus benefits from an ideal microclimate. Its soil is made up of deep sandy gravel on a clay-limestone subsoil. The neighbours are Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild, illustrious First Growths whose nearby vines can be seen from the terrace of the Château. The encounter was with Baron Philippe, who in 1970 acquired this badly neglected estate and decided to restore it to its status as a Classified Growth.
