Winemakers Note

Rayne Vigneau, a fresh and elegant wine Rayne Vigneau’s vineyard stands on a beautiful single hilltop towering above the Sauternes area, in the municipality of Bommes. Tens of generations have followed each other on this hill since the founding of the estate by Gaillard Sauvage, at the beginning of the 17th Century. Amongst his illustrious successors, one particularly stands out: the Pontac family, whose name is closely connected to the birth of the great Bordeaux wines and which acquired the estate in 1834. Under their direction the Château gained the sought-after rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes at the famous 1855 Classification and was crowned “Best Wine in the World” in 1867. After having been bought by the Trésor du Patrimoine group, the Château of Rayne Vigneau is nowadays run by Vincent Labergère, with the advice of oenologist Henri Boyer. Rayne Vigneau is one of the top-tier estates of the appellation, claiming with every passing vintage a style full of intensity, with remarkable length and freshness.
