The Collective Review

A lovely mature Bordeaux of great complexity and character, all its elements in harmony, the tannins softened and the overall wine nicely mellowed. There is real intensity here, and at 18 years young it's far from starting to fade. It's in a great place to drink right now. Huon Hook The Real Review 95 Pts

This is full and powerful, with loads of fruit and a tropical undertone of berries and mango. Loads of tannins in this big wine, but still very fresh. This needs more time than the 2000. Give it five years. Pull the cork in 2015.

James Suckling - Wine Spectator

Aromas of blackberry, black olives and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and nicely done. Best after 2010. 21,665 cases made.

James Lawther MW - Decanter Magazine

The wine has held up well and is clearly one of the better examples from this hot, dry vintage. There's some brick at the rim and the nose is a little flat with just a hint of dark pastille fruit and licorice . There's a sweetness to the palate and the tannins are a little chunky and drying but there's still obvious fruit and that innate freshness to balance the obvious warmth of the year.

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

This opulent 2003 possesses loads of herbaceously-tinged black currant and black cherry fruit intertwined with hints of road tar and barbecue smoke, a medium- to full-bodied texture, and reasonable freshness. This still intact 2003 can be drunk over the next 3-4 years.

Winemakers Note

Château Giscours: A Unique Estate Surrounded by a Thriving and Pristine Ecosystem While the earliest historical records of Château Giscours trace back to the 14th century, its true transformation began in 1552 when Pierre de Lhomme, a prosperous Bordeaux draper, acquired the aristocratic "Guyscoutz" house. He established an expansive estate and planted the first vines, setting the stage for centuries of continuous evolution. In 1995, Eric Albada Jelgersma, a wine enthusiast and art collector, purchased the property, embarked on vineyard restructuring, and renovated the estate's facilities. Today, his children, with the assistance of Alexander Van Beek, oversee this illustrious 3rd Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification of Margaux. Giscours stands out with its breathtaking grandeur. As a self-contained living entity, the estate offers an unparalleled experience within an unspoiled natural setting. Here, the harmony of the entire ecosystem contributes to its collective success. The 95 hectares of vineyards seamlessly integrate with their environment, nestled within a remarkable biodiversity reserve. The forest and park, meticulously designed in 1870 by the renowned landscaper Eugène Bühler, are teeming with an exceptional array of flora and fauna. The wines crafted at Château Giscours reflect the essence of the place, its surroundings, and the dedicated individuals behind them. The Grand Vin bears a distinctive signature: a splendid equilibrium between aromatic brilliance and delicate tannins.
