Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix was the first vineyard and winery to be established in Western Australia’s Margaret River region. Established in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity, it is situated in the Willyabrup sub region where ancient soils and cooling Southern and Indian Ocean breezes provide ideal conditions for fine wine production.

Vasse Felix is owned and operated by the Holmes à Court family. Acquired in 1987, the family noticed the estate listed for sale in the classified section of the West Australian newspaper and have remained owners since.

Who is the Vasse Felix winemaker?

Appointed Chief Winemaker in 2006, Virginia Willcock is one of Australia’s most awarded winemakers with experience working vintages in New Zealand, Albania and Italy. Together with her winemaking team, Vasse Felix has achieved international recognition, awarded 'New World Winery of the Year' at Wine Enthusiast's 18th Annual Wine Star Awards Gala in 2018.

The Vasse Felix winemaking team shares a common goal in crafting wines of exceptional quality from unique vineyard sites. Under the direction of Chief Winemaker Virginia Willcock, the objective remains the same today as it did 40 years ago. A precise understanding of local viticulture and environment is coupled with a hands-on winemaking approach. In 2019, Vasse Felix was accepted into the Organic Certification program through NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia) - supporting the winery’s vision for ongoing sustainability of the land.

The Vasse Felix style shows concentration and complexity while retaining signature elegance and finesse. A testament to winemaking and viticultural dedication, their wines reflect the strengths of Margaret River, with a principal focus on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blends. Their flagship Tom Cullity Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec is made in honour of Dr Cullity who established Vasse Felix. Their revered Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay is produced in limited quantities from a barrel selection of the finest fruit parcels each vintage.
