Vibrant pale lemon with greeny golden hues. The nose is lifted and complex, revealing white peach, nectarine, and lemon zest, with hints of flint, cashew, and a gentle touch of nougat. The palate is refined and layered, combining a silky texture with bright natural acidity. Notes of citrus curd and stone fruit flow into a long, poised finish, underscored by a fine saline edge and mineral precision, capturing both power and elegance.

This comes from two blocks off the Driftwood Vineyard. It typifies the vintage in many ways, with its fine elegance and precision. The whole bunch pressing adds a bit more weight and structure, with natural fermentation adding further complexity. There's a light lemon curd, savory combination on the palate, with a little stone fruit. But it's held quite tight and focused, and I suspect it will begin to reveal its best qualities in another three or four years. Score: 96/100 Cellar: 15 years
Winemakers Notes
The Chardonnay grapes were handpicked in the cool of the early morning on the 18th of February, whole cluster pressed to barrel with 44% new French oak and allowed to ferment naturally capturing a wide range of varietal fruit expressions and flavours. The solids levels were around 500 NTU with fermentation temperatures maintained between 12-20°C for primary fermentation. The wines were matured in the temperature controlled barrel hall for 9 months with battonage to taste. The wine was then racked perfectly clear and bottled unfined, unfiltered, preserving the natural integrity of the wine.
