Tasting Notes

Berries and satsuma plum take centre stage, delivering a glossy, juicy palate with vibrant fruit at its core. Generosity is balanced by savoury notes of leather, brown spice and subtle whole bunch complexity. Fine tannins weave gently through the wine, while a whisper of stalk influence adds freshness, structure and intrigue. Persistent and layered, the finish carries both fruit purity and savoury detail.

Product Highlights

Warramate’s 2024 Syrah is a rewarding find for Shiraz lovers who enjoy perfume and savoury detail alongside generous fruit. The estate sits next to Yarra Yering, with the same ownership and vineyard team, and Sarah Crowe making the wines at both. That is a fine starting point. The wine in the glass gives the connection real substance.

Red and black fruits, plum and violets set the tone, with spice and a savoury edge adding another layer. Whole berries and a portion of whole bunches are used in fermentation, followed by 15 months in French oak. Just 10% of the barrels are new, allowing the fruit to hold its place while the oak helps bring the wine together. Fine, persistent tannins carry the flavours through the finish.

Philip Rich awarded it 95 points for Halliday Wine Companion, praising its perfume and value. Gold at the 2026 Yarra Valley Wine Show gives it another strong credential. It is a red with plenty of flavour and enough savoury interest to make it a useful bottle at the table.
