Arila Gardens Old Vine Shiraz Grenache 2022 6 Pack

Sam Kim - Wine Orbit

Meticulously composed and expressed, the wine shows dark berry, potpourri, toasted spice and cedar characters on the nose. The palate exhibits outstanding weight and concentration, beautifully framed by fleshy texture and layers of silky tannins. Powerful yet refined with terrific complexity, finishing superbly long and gracious.

A barrel selection and a new release for Arila; a 1940s-planted shiraz and the 1900 grenache; 100% new French oak for 14 months. Fun fact: The old-timers over Moppa way pronounce it 'Greee-nash'. I've always loved that. Bright magenta/purple. It's a wine that seems very comfortable in its own skin. Pure plum, blueberry and mulberry fruit tones, layers of baking spice, citrus blossom top notes, those trademark fine tannins and a morello cherry twang to the acid profile. It's an impressive debut and recently picked up the gong for the shiraz blends at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

Angus Hughson - Vinous

There's a beautiful flow to this 2022 Shiraz Grenache blend with the delicious purity of young, vibrant aromas of rhubarb, peppery spice and new earth. Lively and youthful, the densely packed tannins are beautifully matched to a core of bold fruit, offering serious aging potential. Best enjoyed in five years.

A fine Barossa blend, this has a maroon/purple hue and a nose that offers spices, coffee beans, chocolate, bay leaves, mocha and cigar box notes. Delightfully attractive but at this stage, it is still extremely youthful. This seems to come through looking at the structure, which does appear to be slightly leaner than some. A year or two in the cellar should more than rectify that and see the wine develop extra levels. Fine acidity, sleek tannins, good length to enjoy over the next half dozen years, during which period, the score should elevate itself.
