Tasting Notes

The volume of fruit here is excellent, as is the smoothness of the texture, as is the fine grain of the tannin. Every nuance here has been beautifully ordered, delivered and arranged. It tastes of rich plum, sweet blackberry, hay, cedarwood and choc-orange, the latter infused deliciously throughout. This wine is as substantial as it is delicious

Product Highlights

The wildly talented genius behind this extraordinary Mystery Barossa Valley Shiraz is the legendary founder of Torbreck.

Far and wide, the man is recognised as a force of nature thanks to his larger-than-life, uncompromising personality. Core attributes that, it could be noted, are in glorious abundance in his internationally acclaimed, old-vine Barossa red wines.

Indeed, his swag of perfect and near-perfect critical scores led to his winery at the time being anointed one of the Top 100 Wine Estates in the World.

That last bit again: one of the Top 100 Wine Estates in the World.

Drop the mic. Nothing more to say. Except this... he’s a legend. And this is what he does.

Finding, nurturing and mastering old-vine vineyards. Letting exceptional fruit speak. With character and with power.

And this Shiraz has both in spades. Single-vineyard, gnarly 30-year-old vines grown in the dress circle of Marananga, from original cuttings from the historic Kraehe vineyard.

Depth, character, power and... soul. Look forward to plush dark plum and sweet blackberry fruit. Hints of chocolate and liquorice. Then dried herbs, black pepper and clove. Aged for 18 months in seasoned oak. Not leading, just part of such a beautiful dance.

Wave after wave of flavour. Perfect pedigree, perfect provenance. Dare we say perfect Barossa Shiraz?

At this price, you better believe it.

Thanks

"I opened one bottle which was dangerous as it was 2023 and had been delivered a week ago and probably not settled. However it was very good fruit. Still young. I decided to keep the remaining 5 bottle but will need to leave them for another 8 to 10 years before really ready to drink. Good price."

Mystery Barossa Shiraz 6379

"When the wine arrived I was puzzled at the name of the product. A little research reassured me of the identity of the winemaker, who is going through a complex transition of the business. opening a bottle revealed a quality shiraz now sold out at the winery where it fetched $100. At $27 this is a true bargain and typical of top shelf Barossa shiraz. I hope I can keep enough to appreciate it further developing in the bottle, but I am not sure I will resist."

"I have enjoyed a couple of the 2021 vintage of this wine by Dave Powell but for now it’s off to the cellar for the 2023 vintage for a few years"

‘23 Mystery Shiraz 6379

"A delicious silky smooth Shiraz. I have the ‘21 and ‘22 vintages of this wine and the ‘23 is no different."

— Peter M. (5/5)

poor wine

"The wine was very poor. Entirely out of balance and made from poor quality grapes. I opened one bottle and poured the rest down the sink."
