Product Highlights

There’s a wonderful bit of Tuscan history behind Lotto Unico IGT Governo All’uso Toscano 2021.

Centuries ago, Tuscan winemakers discovered that holding back a portion of grapes, drying them, then adding them to the fermenting wine created greater richness and flavour. The technique became known as the governo method. Once widely used throughout Tuscany, it gradually fell out of fashion as modern winemaking took over.

Andrea Valiani and his son Marco of Terrescure have brought it back to life here, using a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot to create a wine of real generosity.

It’s rich, plush and packed with ripe fruit, with an almost Christmas cake-like decadence to it. There’s no shortage of flavour, but the old-school winemaking method gives it a character that makes it far more interesting than your average full-bodied Tuscan red.

And then there’s the score - an extraordinary 99 points from Italian wine critic Luca Maroni.

A unique Tuscan red with history, serious flavour and a remarkable critical endorsement.
