Who is Ricky Ponting?
In addition to being an Australian icon, Ricky Ponting is arguably one of the most successful cricketers of all time. As captain, Ricky won two consecutive World Cup titles and remains the second best Australian batsman after Sir Donald Bradman. Today, with his wife Rianna, he has helped raise in excess of $10 million to help young Australians fight cancer, and was awarded an Order of Australia in 2012.
Who is Ben Riggs?
Ben Riggs, otherwise known as Mr. Riggs, has been in the wine industry for more than 35 years and founded his eponymous Mr Riggs Wine in 2001. During over 45 vintages, Ben has worked in the vineyards of Napa Valley, Bordeaux, Greece and Italy, earning him over 100 trophies, recognition as McLaren Vale’s “Bushing King” twice as well as two nominations for Gourmet Traveller’s Winemaker of the Year.
Where are Ponting Wines from?
Each wine reflects Ricky’s life and has been carefully crafted by Ben to ensure flavour, structure, and complexity as the highest quality. Through extensive contacts with growers, Ben’s winery in South Australia has access to premium fruit from the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale. The result is unpretentious wines that reflect the unique terroir of each region.
The Ponting Milestone 127 Shiraz marks Ricky’s milestone innings of 127 - his first Ashes Test and maiden Test century. Ben captures this milestone through hand-selected parcels of Shiraz from the Barossa Valley.
The Ponting Close of Play Cabernet Sauvignon honours the tradition of raising a glass with team mates at the close of play - “the special moments”, Ricky calls them.
