Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is widely considered the king of the west coast Aussie region, cementing itself as a premium destination for lovers of this big, rich red.
Margaret River Cab Sav
The Margaret River's warm, dry summers (it enjoys a Mediterranean climate) are the closest approximation in our country of Bordeaux, so it makes sense that Cabernet is the star performer here. The soils are rich in limestone and nutrients, providing the perfect growing conditions.
The grapes display immense concentration of flavour, with aromas of blueberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and freshly ground black pepper. James Halliday reckons that Margaret River Cabernet is “seldom green, the flavours in the classic blackcurrant/cassis spectrum, with a juicy mid-palate then moderately firm tannins running through notes of black olive and earth to finish”.
Best Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon
Crack open a bottle and pair it with a juicy medium rare steak, or a loaded up cheeseboard with plenty of hard cheeses.
Did you know? Margaret River’s output is responsible for just 2% of our national production, but it holds 20% of the premium wine market.
