Halliday 92

Tasting Notes

Delicate pale lemon colour with a hint of green and bursts from the glass with intense rose‑petal, lychee and musk‑stick aromas, underscored by subtle cinnamon and green‑melon lift. On the palate it’s crisply dry yet softly textured, combining talc‑like phenolics with rose‑petal florals and a precise, linear mineral‑tinged finish.

Product Highlights

At 950 metres above sea level, this is properly cool-climate vineyard country. The family planted it in Orange more than 20 years ago. Today the next generation makes the wine, pairing European grape-growing heritage with New World practice. This bottling sits in their single-vineyard range. Gewürztraminer is a love-it-or-hate-it grape, all rose petal and lychee. Shanteh Wale reckons this one walks the line between true varietal character and easy drinking. She found musk florals, lychee syrup and grated ginger, with acidity that sweeps through the palate. That freshness is the key. It’s dry enough to keep sipping, which makes it far more useful at the table than most Gewürztraminer. Wale suggested a spicy Thai chicken larb, and that’s a match worth trying. Expect rose petal, lychee and musk, with ginger and a little spice. The palate is fresher and drier than the rich aromas suggest. Drink it while the perfume is at its loudest.
