Tasting Notes

Blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit sit alongside violet perfume, fresh herbs and gentle cedar. The medium-bodied palate is juicy and fresh, with a leafy edge and a hint of anise bringing savoury interest. Fine tannins and subtle oak give the wine shape, carrying the fruit through a long finish. It has the familiar character of a Cabernet blend with an approachable texture that makes it appealing to drink now.

Product Highlights

A trophy has a way of getting a wine noticed. Warramate’s 2024 Cabernets won Best Cabernet Blend at the 2026 Yarra Valley Wine Show, putting this neighbour of Yarra Yering firmly in the conversation. With Sarah Crowe making the wines at both estates, it is a result that gives savvy red wine buyers good reason to take a closer look.

The blend draws on nine vineyard blocks and five varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Each has a part to play in a wine built around fragrant fruit and fine structure. Cabernet Franc is fermented and matured in clay amphora, adding another dimension to the way the parcels are handled.

In the glass, blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit meet violets, fresh herbs and a little cedar. The palate is medium bodied and gently juicy, with fine tannins giving it the shape expected of a Cabernet blend. There is enough freshness and savoury detail to keep it lively at the table. Philip Rich’s 94-point Halliday rating adds to the case.

For drinkers who enjoy the character of a classic claret, this is an inviting bottle to open now.
