This one is also well known for the extraordinary length of post ferment maceration.  One of the early examples of the old vine Grenache which have entranced wine lovers around the world, often around an entire year. For the 2024 vintage, it was 373 days. The vines come from two acres planted back in 1889, with just over 800 old bush vines. 4,633 bottles made. Pale crimson in colour, this is a wine with gorgeous aromas. We have spices and herbs, strawberries and raspberries, juicy bay leaf notes, a flick of orange rind and hints of kirsch. There is a touch of sappiness and the wine is fresh and energetic with a fine line of acidity running the length. Stunning stuff, which will drink beautifully for at least the next ten to twelve years, longer if required. Surely this is one of the best Tri-Centenary’s they’ve ever made.

The 2024 The Tri-Centenary Grenache is superb. Stylistically, it sits somewhere between the spicy, pressed incense notes of the 2023 and the silky suppleness of the 2022. This wine spent 373 days on the skins—the philosophy now is to press off prior to the next batch coming in to the winery, hence the almost one year between. 14.4% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

A lightly coloured, perfumed Tri-Centenary this year with brilliant aromatic detail and clarity straight out of the gates. Raspberry, red plum and redcurrant fruits flecked with exotic spice, citrus blossom, a whiff of watermelon, gingerbread, dried meats, earth and dried citrus rind. Spacious and airy on the palate with fine, lacy acidity and a sleek raspberry-pure line of fruit. The tannins are powdery and fine and there's an infectious energy as they scoot across the palate. Finishes long, fine and savoury.

Tom Kline - Winepilot

From a two acre block in the Yalumba Tri-Centenary vineyard where the vines were planted in 1889. This could easily be mistaken for a deeply coloured Rosé on account of its striking translucent cherry-red appearance. Seductive aromas of red cherry, cola, rhubarb, subtle kirsch, blood orange and warm sand kick things off, with a substratum of baking spices and white pepper adding further savoury appeal. With air, further red fruit notes emerge in raspberry coulis and wild strawberry, along with some red liquorice. The palate sits high in the mouth without any suggestion of weight, though not at the expense of complexity. Flavours mirror the nose — warm sand, blood orange bite, baking spice, rhubarb, red cherry, raspberry, white pepper and red liquorice. The tannins are so fine and interwoven that there’s a seamless feel. Chalky and pliant, they put up a delicate frame on which everything carries long. Complex, structured and modern, with finesse and litheness while still maintaining intensity and drive. There’s a lot of class on show here. Nicely done.
