Tasting Notes

Delicate citrus aromas lead into a palate with real density and depth, the kind that only comes from special vineyard blocks. Soft acidity and a lovely texture give it approachability now, with plenty of runway to age further.

Product Highlights

Revered as one of Australia’s ultimate white wine icons, the 2021 Vat 1 Semillon is a masterclass in Hunter Valley purity.

Vat 1 Semillon has been a Tyrrell's icon since Murray Tyrrell first created it in 1962, and the fruit still comes from vines planted in 1923, dry-grown on their own roots in the Hunter Valley's Short Flat Vineyard. This isn't a wine chasing trends. Minimal handling, just old vines and a house style refined over five generations.

Free of oak and fermented dry, this wine year-in-year-out remains an epic example of one of the most remarkably age-worthy whites on the planet. Magnificent

Halliday’s Toni Paterson celebrated the ‘aromas of pure lemon juice and peel’ and ‘the taut, lemon-drenched palate is thrilling to taste now’. Her conclusion? ‘Impressive!’

Delicious enough to enjoy today but will reward 15+ years cellaring
This is a wine that serious collectors won’t want to miss.
