No immediate big pronouncements here, just a quiet insinuation of deep flavour that is part savoury, part citrus, part almond nutty and part exotic. And it comes beautifully tied together in a textural flow accompanied by some scintillating bright acidity. There’s plenty to like here. Aromas and flavours embrace lime peel, grapefruit, white peach, almond and chalky saline notes with a curry leaf-cum-lemongrass Asian note. Ten months maturation in French oak lends a mealy, smooth, supple feel to the Chardonnay before it closes on a lasting saline note with a flourish of pithy grapefruit tartness. Consider your tastebuds awakened.

This one had me as soon as I brought these heady aromas to the nose. Obviously, it’s influenced by the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills, and immediately strikes with a combination of light lemon curd, citrus and stone fruit, with a little apple-y character most evident. The palate brings in a more savory complexity with light cashew notes. It has texture, but then there is that crisp acidity which provides the definition to extend through to a sustained finish. Beautifully balanced and most stylish.

Lovely, elegant, almost delicate Chardonnay, capturing the Adelaide Hills style delightfully well. Subtle nutty stone fruit nuances on the nose with a faint buttery character, albeit quite light. Palate is fine with that vintage delicacy showing through, but there is good flavour definition with that stone fruit, citrus combination carrying through to an effortlessly long finish. A nice wine for drinking in the shorter term.

Soft, plush and ready to go, this is a fine introductory Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. One of the earliest Hills vintages on record has delivered a wine that is ready to be opened and enjoyed. Chock full of sunny flavour and approachability, it wisely employs subtle oak as a seasoning rather than the star, allowing the full sway of fruit to make an impact in peach, nectarine, melon, lemon citrus and spice with an inviting complex contribution of grilled nuts. Juicy citrus notes really work the tastebuds with pith and lemon skin bringing additional zestiness. Makes its mark in flavour and on price.
