Tasting Notes

Dark, brooding and beautifully composed, this is classic Greenock power with the volume turned toward precision. Black fruits, mulberry, liquorice, graphite and warm spice sit over a savoury, ferrous line. The palate is dense but controlled, with plush fruit wrapped in fine, commanding tannins. There’s richness, yes, but also shape, freshness and a long, mineral-edged finish. Built for the cellar, though a long decant will show just how much detail is already tucked inside.

Product Highlights

The namesake. The benchmark.

The wine that, year after year, seems to speak most clearly of where it comes from. Sourced from the Laycock Family Vineyard in Greenock, this is Barossa Shiraz in its purest Standish form. Powerful, structured and deeply rooted in place.

Erin Larkin called it "the wine in the lineup that shows a clear sense of place," and it's hard to argue.

Sweet paprika, brick dust, rose petals, black cherry and licorice all emerge from the glass, but it's the shape of the wine that leaves the lasting impression.

Silky, structural and remarkably composed.

The 2024 vintage saw whole bunch inclusion increase to 50%, adding another layer of texture and complexity, but never at the expense of the vineyard character that sits at the heart of the wine.

This is not the most aromatic wine in the range. It isn't the 100-point wine either, although 98 is impressive in itself.

It's the wine that carries the family name.

And for many collectors, that's all the introduction it needs.
