Tasting Notes

Deep plum with a vivid crimson vibrancy at the rim. Silky and sleek, gliding across with depth and control. Flavours of pecan pie, hazelnut and berry coulis are layered with soaked sponge and summer pudding richness. Goji berry brightness lifts the mid-palate, while wet metal and mineral notes bring definition. Chalky, powder fine tannins provide structure and length, shaping a finish that is polished and persistent. A classic, powerful Shiraz of lineage and intent.

Product Highlights

There are legends. And then there is Penfolds.

Global Super-Star. Heritage Icon. Cultural Treasure. Penfolds unequivocally rivals the oldest, most prestigious grand wine estates on the planet. End of story.

Yet, there's still one more chapter.

Amidst the pageantry of Penfolds' Annual Release — the next vintages of Grange, Bin 389, St Henri, RWT and a treasure trove of other icons — came a first for the House: Penfolds Special Shiraz.

It's a one-off: a commemorative special-release classic Penfolds Shiraz, created to honour 75 years of Grange.

It's a celebration: of Penfolds' first Chief Winemaker and Grange creator Max Schubert, and the extraordinary brilliance of multi-regional blending.

It's infused: with Grange.

Yep, you read that right. This oh-so-special Shiraz — sourced selectively from pre-eminent South Australian vineyards in Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley — has been blended with a touch of Grange, drawn straight from the barrel.

There's Grange in this bottle. And it's nowhere near $1,000.

You'll be getting a red that celebrates the variety that is the beating heart of Penfolds. Silky and sleek, it reveals pecan pie, hazelnut and berry coulis, lifted by goji berry brightness, with fine, chalky tannins and a polished, persistent finish.

By name and by nature, Penfolds Special Shiraz is history in a bottle. And a taste of Grange at a fraction of the price.
