“Had an experience bizarreNot unlike peninsula, ra ra hey!” I believe David Reyne lives on the Mornington Peninsula, and he’s quite into wine, so I thought an Australian Crawl lyric was a nice thing to include (and, yes, I know it’s his brother, James). I still listen to the odd track from the old ABC series Sweet & Sour (starring David). Too Hot To Move (link) was written by David McComb of The Triffids, and apparently the ABC would not release the rights for ages so he could play it, or record it, though he did eventually in 1989 (link). It’s a great song, as so many of his were. One of those strange things that sit inside my old head. Anyway, nice to see the wines from Paringa Estate again. I bought quite a bit of the 2000 Pinot back in the day, likely on the back of an ancient review by our Campbell. This hits the spot, not least at its price point. It has flavour, but it also has some snap to it. I’m thinking cherry, spice, a little cedar, herb and perfume. The tannin sits confidently within the wine, not too much, not too little, and there’s brightness, energy, and good length to boot. Lovely wine. Recommended.
