The Collective Review

Over the 75 year history of The Wine Collective, few imported sparkling wines have made an impact as big as Kriter Blanc de Blancs.

Made in the greater Burgundy region, this French sparkling has some of the class of Champagne, yet with an easy-drinking appeal. It's the best sort of bubbly that everyone should have in their fridge, just waiting for an excuse to pop a bottle.

Started by Burgundian wine merchant André Boisseaux back in the 50s, this is a label dedicated purely to sparkling. When you've got just a handful of wines, it's important to nail it, and Kriter has this Blanc de Blancs styles down pat.

With gentle citrus fruit flavours, a creamy mousse and crisp acidity, this is a vibrant fizz that would leave most equivalent priced Aussie sparklers for dead.

Made from chardonnay, it is instantly appealing on the nose showing rockmelon, nectarine, citrus and floral notes, followed by a vibrant palate that is fruity and refreshing. A friendly sparkling wine offering bright fruit flavours and a lingering smooth finish. NZ Distributor: Eurovintage.

Michael Schachner - Wine Enthusiast

Shows some smoke and other hard, burnt aromas in front of a bright apple-based palate that blends in pineapple, pear and mango. Good on the tongue, with clean, fresh flavors and balance. Tastes pure and lively. Imported by Cannon Wines Limited.

Joe Czerwinski - Wine Enthusiast

This is a blend of white grapes from various parts of France, and thus ineligible for any appellation contrôlée. Yes, the bead is a little larger than it might be if the wine's second fermentation had been in the bottle, but the costs associated with that would price it well out of the value range. Still, it does ferment for seven months before aging on the lees for an additional nine, acquiring toasty, autolytic notes to complement its ripe fruit flavors. It's a soft, approachable bubbly ideal for large holiday crowds.

Roger Voss - Wine Enthusiast

Clean and soft with some good citrus flavors, this well-known brand is reliable, fresh and fruity. In a light, apéritif style, it finishes crisp, clean and just off dry.

Fruit-forward and simple, this wine's pleasant apple and citrus flavors begin to dull as the carbonation rapidly fades in the glass.
