Ratafia made from Chardonnay juice. It’s a solera-born fortified wine started in 2011. I don’t have info on when it was drawn out from the solera, but the batch number on the bottle is LOT: RAT. As you can imagine with a sweet wine, there’s a fair bit of confected aromas and flavours coming from the unfermented juice, but there are also secondary elements and oaky accents giving this wine layers to uncover. It starts with ricotta honey, smooth in texture but not cloying. Peach pastry, nougat whiff, some dried herbs mixed in, apricots, toffee apple, ginger and candied orange peel. Refreshment comes from the concentrated citrus zest. Alcohol is not the concern here, all flowing in a pleasant smooth manner. Importer: Mosaique
