James Halliday - Halliday Wine Companion
A shift to older wines: older base average and longer time in wood than the generic regional expression. A mahogany hue. Date, dried fig and the whiff of the Moroccan souk coming into play: dried apricot, ginger, cardamon and turmeric. This tier is stellar value, offering an opportunity to explore among the finest fortifieds in the country before yelping.
Powerful, with wave after wave of salted caramel, tobacco, amaretto, vanilla bean, toast and spice notes. Dense, unctuous and syrupy, this avoids cloying qualities on the long, expressive finish.

Old Vine equates to the Classic Rutherglen Muscat classification and is produced with a 3-stage solera: stages 1 and 3 in 2500L casks and stage 2 in 2 groups of barrels of varying ages. Slowly moving up a notch in age, complexity, depth of flavour and stickiness. Suffice to say, this is a fortified brimming with a seamless beauty and richness of expression. Layers of dried fig, dates, honey cake, toffee and raisin set a fresh and lively pace, aided by neutral spirit. Amazing value. 375ml.

A fortified 10 years in the making with an original base that, in the words of the maker, "arises" from 100-plus-year-old vines. Most recent blends are a mix of 30-plus and 100-plus-year-old vines. The beauty here is the balance – the fineness and freshness of spirit lifting the complexity acquired with age. Rose petal, Turkish delight, orange peel, candied fruits, honeyed nougat and toasted hazelnuts with fig and wood-aged vanillin notes. All class and so, so fresh. 375ml.

Restrained toasted wood nose. The palate is waxy, almost buttery in texture, with flavours of black treacle, spice and raisins. Flavours of caramelised pineapples and roasted Brazil nut show on the fine finish. Excellent release. Award: Gold - DWWA 2017
2015 - Decanter World Wine Awards
