Product Highlights
Some vines have earned the right to be left alone. The ones behind this Chenin Blanc were planted in 1964, and they've spent six decades learning every fold of Blewitt Springs. Fine Maslin sand above, ironstone below, sea breeze rolling in from the south-west. That's not tasting note filler. That's the whole reason this wine tastes like nowhere else.
The people behind it aren't new to this either. Martin Shaw, Adam Wadewitz, and Masters of Wine Michael Hill-Smith and David LeMire took on the vineyard in 2021, four of the most respected names in Australian wine, united by one instinct: get out of the way and let the old vines speak.
And what they say is honeysuckle and fresh quince, lifted and generous, followed by citrus and grapefruit with a fine mineral thread running through. It's bright now. Give it time and it only gets more interesting.
Nothing about the making is rushed. Whole bunch and crushed fruit, fermented in old oak and concrete, matured in French oak puncheons. Time on lees builds texture, malolactic fermentation rounds it out, and the acid stays fresh through all of it.
Winepilot gave it 97 points and admitted the wine "never ceases to interest and amaze." Jeni Port scored it 96 and pointed to exactly why Chenin is having its moment. We'd agree with both.
