The 2022 The McRae Wood Shiraz is perfumed and spicy on the nose, with a palate to match. Here, we have pomegranate, eucalypt, blueberry, star anise, hints of clove and dark chocolate. It's all there. This is an excellent wine. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

You don't drink with your eyes but this has beautiful, vibrant, dark garnet colour. It feels fresh and bright yet delivers a good, deep hit of Clare shiraz with requisite forest berries, ferrous savouriness, a lift of eucalyptus and a scattering of sweet and woody spices. It feels quite tight and driven by acid profile right now, so let it rest before a more youthful approach.

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

This is rich, dry and well sustained. It driven by leather, licorice and mint flavours with miso, rust and roasted plum flavours pushing through. Aromatically it’s muted but the palate is substantially well fruited, and it has both the acidity and the tannin to match. There’s a fair argument to say though that this wine will be better with a few more years under its belt.
