Jaffelin Ladoix 2023

We first came across Jaffelin’s Ladoix when the 2017 vintage scored a huge 98 points from Decanter. Since then, the requests for more haven’t stopped. Expect the richness of Meursault, with the savoury nuttiness of Corton, its famous neighbour. A stunning Chardonnay with depth, fragrance and serious charm.

Product Highlights

Ladoix is one of those smaller Burgundy pockets that still feels like a bit of a secret.

It sits in the Côte de Beaune, wrapped around the hill of Corton - proper Grand Cru country - but without the same noise or pricing as the bigger village names. Which is exactly why we like it.

This is the 2023 Jaffelin Ladoix Blanc, and it is bang on the money.

It has that lovely white Burgundy mix of richness, fruit weight and chalky mineral drive. White peach, pear, citrus oil and white flowers up front, then toasted almonds, brioche and hazelnut underneath. There’s a bit of Meursault-like generosity here, with some of that Corton power sitting quietly in the background.

For this part of Burgundy, it is a very smart buy. The kind of bottle that reminds you there are still corners of the Côte d'Or where value can be found - you just have to know where to look.

If you like white Burgundy, or you’re trying to get into it, this is exactly the sort of bottle we’d point you towards.

It gives you the richness and nutty complexity you want from serious Chardonnay, but without wandering into eye-watering Burgundy pricing. Think white peach, pear, citrus oil, toasted almond, brioche and hazelnut, all pulled together by that cool Ladoix minerality.

It’s generous, mouth-filling and quietly powerful, but still fresh and precise. A very handy bottle for roast chicken, richer seafood, creamy pasta, or the simple joy of opening good white Burgundy because it’s Tuesday.
