A Family Tradition in Alsace Since 1870 Nestled in the village of Katzenthal, just 5km from Colmar on the Alsace Wine Route, Domaine Eckle Jean-Paul & Fils is a family-owned estate with a winemaking history dating back to 1870. Five generations of the Eckle family have worked the vineyards, with the estate today led by Emmanuel Eckle and his family, alongside the next generation, Emma. The estate farms 9.5 hectares of vineyards, exclusively within the Alsace Controlled Appellation, including parcels in the prestigious Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg. As independent winegrowers, the Eckle family cultivates their own vines, hand-harvests the grapes and carries out the vinification, ageing and bottling entirely at the estate. Respect for the land is central to the domaine's philosophy. Vineyard practices focus on reducing inputs and environmental impact, with organic fertilisation, careful monitoring of vineyard conditions and a commitment to preserving the natural balance of the soils and surrounding biodiversity. The estate's wines express the distinctive terroirs of Katzenthal and the surrounding Alsace vineyards. The family works with traditional Alsatian varieties including Sylvaner, Chasselas, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Gewurztraminer, producing wines that combine freshness, aromatic precision and a clear sense of place. White wines are gently pressed and vinified in traditional Alsatian casks or stainless-steel vats, then aged according to the character of each vintage before being bottled at the domaine. Today, Domaine Eckle continues to combine five generations of family savoir-faire with a modern, environmentally conscious approach, producing authentic Alsace wines that reflect both the character of the grape varieties and the unique terroirs of Katzenthal.
