All estate vines, averaging 50 years; matured in French oak, 15% new. That new oak percentage has been dropping over the last few years, whereas now it sits well within the wine, though imparting subtle vanilla and spice. This is a little fuller than the elegant ’23, but very much still riffing on red fruits, with some wild blackberry and black cherry joining the chorus. There’s a backdrop of warm bushland scents, some bay and dry red earth. It’s an ever-reliable bottling in good form.

The modern Coriole Estate Shiraz wines seem to be a bit lighter and less ‘ferrous’ than in days of yore. Blackberry, raspberry jam, a sort of bush honey perfume, gum leaf. It’s medium-bodied, quite juicy in red fruits, supple tannin, quite soft in acidity, nutty with a somewhat minty finish of solid length. Gee, the raspberry jam is a bit of a theme here, but it’s a nice enough wine all up. Maybe a bit simple as at now, though it may come good with a little bottle age.
