Tasting Notes

Black raspberry, black plum and red currant lift from the glass, followed by dried cranberry and a juicy hit of boysenberry. The palate is bright, bold and fruit-driven, with cassis, red berries and dried cranberry carried by youthful tannins and a fresh, lightly savoury finish.

Product Highlights

Great value French reds are having a bit of a moment, and this $16 Gamay blend is exactly why.

It’s bright, juicy and chillable, made for everyday drinking rather than being tucked away for some imaginary special occasion. Mostly Gamay, with a splash of Braucol, it has all the fresh berry crunch you want, with just enough savoury spice and darker fruit to keep things interesting.

Braucol might not be a household name, and honestly, it does sound a bit made up. But this old southwest French grape does a very handy job here. It gives the wine a little more shape, a little more depth, and stops the Gamay from drifting into lolly-water territory.

The result is a relaxed, deliciously crushable red that feels right at home with a slight chill. Open it with takeaway, take it to dinner when you’re not sure what people drink, or keep a few bottles in the fridge for nights when big reds feel like too much work.
