Taking it’s name from a local Eden Valley landmark between the villages of Eden Valley (yes, there’s a small township as well as the regional appellation) and Keyneton, where the Henschke family estate is based; sourced from several of the district’s preferred grower vineyards at around the 500m altitude mark. Deeply aromatic mostly with lime notes – zest, leaf and Bickford’s cordial, moving from nose to mouth with ease, aromas to generous flavours, and salivating citrus pith texture to energise the palate. Allowed time in the bottle, tasted with several months relaxation since bottling, this has found a great place to allow purity and depth of flavour to rise up. A joy to drink.

There's a lovely bright lift to the nose of this wine that makes you want to dive right in and swim around with the lavender, lemongrass, river stone and lime sherbet characters. Open-knit with a slippery texture and this variety's signature racy acidity, there's an approachability and food friendliness to this wine now, but the framework for age-worthiness is there, too. Peggy's may be Henschke's more affordable Riesling, but it's a highly lovable drop.

This is the 20 th anniversary vintage of this always popular and impressive Eden Valley Riesling. Of course, it seems only fair that it comes from an increasingly imposing vintage like 2025. The colour here is a very pale slate/lemon. Attractively perfumed, we have hints of florals with white jasmine and frangipani, along with citrus notes, most notably limes, and hints of crisp apples. The wine is focused and balanced, exhibits good energy, and is seamless throughout. Offering a lengthy, soft and lingering finish, we see hints of lemon curd emerging on the palate. Enjoy this over the next eight to twelve years.

The 2025 Peggy's Hill Riesling hails from a challenging vintage in that it was a combination of both hot and dry, which was troublesome for South Australia. The season was off to a hard start in September with a serious frost that caused widespread losses for Barossa and Clare Valley. The season was significantly shorter than usual, at just eight weeks this year as opposed to the normal 12 weeks. Hill of Grace was harvested a full month earlier than normal, and only two other vintages in the Henschke's six-generational history come close to this: 1995 and 1965. The 30-year intervals are a point of interest. So here, the 2025 Peggy's Hill Riesling is floral and fine and shows none of the struggle in the glass. The canopies were healthy and the flavors were ripe before the main heat event, so the fruit was picked prior to the hot weather. Certainly, the wine shows talcy and floral and very pretty. It has good length, too. It had a long, cool fermentation in stainless steel. Sealed under screw cap.

This is lifted and bright Eden Valley Riesling, hitting all of the regional markers well. Lime, wet stone, lemon peel and citrus blossom make up the core with pretty jasmine and cinnamon spice beneath. There are subtle tropical tones with allusions of pineapple husk and lychee, possibly ester-related and very subtle. The palate follows suit with a bright, citrus-drenched and bone-dry aesthetic and good mouth-filling intensity. Lime, jasmine, lemon juice and cinnamon apple slosh around the mouth before a firm cut of citrusy acidity washes it all down to a fresh and bright finish. Lots of thirst-slaking appeal here, and a lot of wine for $28.

An anniversary vintage celebrating 20 years of Peggy’s Hill. Coincidentally, the maker suggests the ’25 will age for 20-plus years, but those heady floral aromatics matched to an already high drinkability factor means it can be enjoyed sooner, capturing the vitality that is there right now. Florals shine in citrus blossom, spring flowers, acacia with honeysuckle married to plenty of fresh citrus fruits and super bright acidity. There’s also an easy textural flow to the wine that also makes it good drinking now. The lead into the 2025 vintage in the Eden Valley was one of the hottest and driest in living memory, but Peggy’s Hill delivers another strong Henshcke Riesling masterclass.
