This is the 10th mencía from this address as a red wine, with rosé made earlier. Vines planted in '11 to clay over ironstone and limestone; whole-berry native ferment, matured in steel and old oak, half each. Such a mass of perfume of red, blue and purple florals, dusky and sultry, somewhat intoxicating, like an old French fragrance made for late nights and Gitanes. Boysenberry, blood plum, black cherries in syrup, cordite and graphite, rain on an old slate roof melding with petrichor. It’s bold and flavour-intense, yet it carries itself lightly, tannins charmingly chewy and chalky, natural acidity refining further. Excellent.
