Padthaway is no longer flying under the radar. This South Australian region is quickly building a reputation for producing some of the country’s most compelling Chardonnay, thanks to its cool climate, terra rossa soils over limestone, and beautifully balanced fruit.
This wine is the Reserve release - not the entry-level bottling, but the flagship style. And it looks every bit the part, too, with its heavyweight bottle, cork closure and wax seal.
Inside, it’s all about richness and flavour. Think crème brûlée, French nougat, peach and ripe stonefruit, wrapped in a generous, textural palate with plenty of old-school Chardonnay appeal.
Last year’s limited release sold through in a flash and was a BIC Chardonnay finalist. This latest wine goes a step further - and while it tastes like a $50-plus Chardonnay, it’s been dropped from $80 to just $20.
For lovers of full-flavoured, properly indulgent Chardonnay, this is hard to ignore.
