Where the 2024 Three Wishes Chardonnay is rich and full, this 2023 Three Wishes Vineyard Chardonnay is exactly that but with a softer landing on the palate. Where the 2024 is all lights and action, this is set back off the main street, complex and restrained, super long through the finish and delicious. These are super wines! This is slightly more nutty and briny, and that aspect lingers long beyond the wine itself. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

The most northerly site, not far off the Batman Bridge. Planted 2000. A crystalline chardonnay that shares some DNA with fine chenin blanc or textural, lees-worked riesling, though hallmark stone fruit (just-ripe), limey acidity and gingery nuance come with the chardonnay territory. Excellent in the texture department, very compact too, and a long trail of nougat and sweet spice follows on. Gentle savouriness makes for some x-factor. A very impressive release.

Dave Brookes - Halliday Wine Companion

Sourced from the Three Wishes vineyard on the eastern bank of the Tamar River and made by Ricky Evans. Expressive white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits with hints of crushed riverstone, soft spice, oatmeal, wildflowers, crème fraîche, chamomile and oyster shell. I love the stony clarity and gentle ache of umami in this wine. Sapid, too, with a saliva-inducing minerality. Tremendous stuff.

Tom Kline - Winepilot

There’s loads of interest here, with a metamorphosis from first pour to final sip as the wine relaxes in the glass. It opens in a savoury and alluring mode—honeysuckle, hay, cheesecloth, and hard cheese rind give way to tighter, higher-toned notes of lemon peel, preserved lime, bath salts, and talc, with a glimmer of salted pastry dough beneath. Initially, it leans more to savouriness over fruit, but as it unfurls, the fruit notes integrate beautifully into the profile. The palate is creamy yet precise, cut through with pithy yellow grapefruit, green apple, lemon juice, and dehydrated lime. A tensile coil of limey acidity brings focus, drive, and length. This is well-composed, walking the line between texture and tension with poise, and will no doubt reveal further complexity with age.
