David Sly - Decanter

Expressive, in so many ways, starting with a lively, juicy purple glow in the glass, showing the influence of whole bunch fruit in the ferment. A funky edge to the lifted nose of raspberry and fresh plum ushers a sunny red-fruited opening note – but then there’s substance to support this exuberant entrance. Blackberry and fresh blackcurrant form the bedrock of this wine, framed by chocolate, mocha and the crunch of ground black pepper. Effusive, but still effective in the way it shows strong Shiraz character in a sprightly medium-weight wine.

I really like these new school Whistler wines. They are built around a central tenet of drinkability. Pure plummy fruits lined with spice, licorice, pressed flowers, chocolate and earth but they've light and space within and aren't just plinths of monolithic fruit and tannin. There is enjoyment to be had here without pontification and, more often than not, that is just what the doctor ordered. You can safely give this one a chill, too.

A focused, balanced and flavorful shiraz. On the nose it has dark cherries, cured meat and baking spices, following through to a medium body with fine tannins. Refined texture, supple fruit and a satisfying finish.

Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

Recent vintages of this wine have been quite spicy and lively, and the cooler 2023 vintage has continued the theme. Blue and black fruits, meaty and spicy, with something of a nutty umami seaweed character (I think that about covers it). It’s medium-bodied, lively and a bit different from your usual Barossa Shiraz with its peppery grilled meat flavours and fresh blackberry and blackcurrant zip. Tannin is dusty and grainy, and the finish is savoury and offers good length, some sundried tomato in the aftertaste is a minor distraction.

The 2023 Shiraz Shiver is plump and fruit-forward with slick layers of red cherry and red licorice aromas that are reserved yet appealing. This is light-bodied in style and silky over a gentle finish.
