Product Highlights
Let’s be completely honest. When you think of elite, world-class Australian Pinot Noir, your mind probably goes straight to the usual cool-climate suspects. Like, the Yarra Valley, Tasmania or Mornington Peninsula.
When our Head of Wine Buying, Mark ‘Poll’ Pollard gathered his team for a ‘blind’ Pinot Noir line-up featuring heavy-hitters from all those iconic regions, one glass stopped everyone in their tracks.
And it didn’t come from any of those places.
An elite, reserve-release Pinot that normally commands $75 a bottle.
There was a curious moment during the tasting when the room went quiet. A fair bit of side-eye followed, until Poll broke the silence with, “this is absolutely bloody delicious!”
They unbagged the bottle and discovered a complete game-changer. A magnificent Pinot Noir masterpiece from Orange, NSW.
Orange is Australia’s highest-altitude wine region. Perched on the volcanic slopes of Mt Canobolas, its soaring elevation and long, slow ripening period make it an exceptional location for super-premium Pinot Noir and myriad top-tier wineries.
We can’t show you the label, but this Reserve Pinot Noir 2023 is a single-vineyard barrel-selection with only the finest parcels from this exceptional vintage making it into the bottle.
It comes from a multi-generational, multi award-winning family-owned winery that over the years has scooped multiple Gold Medals for their estate-grown wines. They’ve even clinched a regional wine show’s award for Best Exhibitor of Show and Best Wine of Show. Yes, they’re that good!
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s waiting in the glass.
Aromas of spiced cherries, fruits of the forest floor and bright red berries abound. Whole-bunch fermentation gives an added depth and complexity, while fine silky tannins mingle with dark cherry flavours, all woven together with mouth-filling texture and structure.
To quote Poll: “This wine absolutely stood out. To get a Pinot Noir this good, for this price today, is unheard of.”
This is an elite, barrel-select Reserve Pinot Noir 2023 from Orange that normally commands $75 a bottle. 95 points, Sam Kim - Wine Orbit.
