Product Highlights
This one comes from a very special corner of the Hunter Valley. A vineyard so tightly held that only two winemakers have ever been allowed access to the fruit. One is Thommo from Thomas Wines. The other is this wine. That’s the company it keeps.
It didn’t quietly arrive either. From the moment it hit the show circuit, it started collecting silverware. Multiple trophies and gold medals across the Hunter Valley Wine Show, NSW Wine Awards and Royal Melbourne Wine Show. Add Top 100 Wines recognition from James Halliday, plus scores of 96 points from Halliday and 95 from Huon Hooke, and you get a pretty clear picture of what’s going on here.
Just look at the lineup of awards:

This isn’t a casual weeknight red. It’s a proper Hunter Valley Shiraz, built with structure and restraint, and made to age. If you’ve got the patience, 25 plus years in the cellar is absolutely on the cards. It’s the kind of wine that shows more with time, not less.
The fruit itself is incredibly hard to come by, which is why this wine has always been scarce. Historically, if you wanted a bottle, you had to make the trip to the Hunter, queue up at the cellar door and hope it hadn’t sold out before your turn. It’s not something that turns up often, and it’s rarely seen outside the region.
That’s why this release matters. When a wine like this becomes available more broadly, and at a level that represents genuine value for its quality and pedigree, it’s worth stopping and paying attention. These moments don’t come around often.
If you know Hunter Shiraz, you already get it. And if you don’t, this is a very good introduction.
