The best of the mixed
"The best of the mixed chardonnays that I ordered. Unfortunately it was sold out when I tried to reorder."
Highgate has a simple formula - find the right region, then the right winemaker.
In years gone by, Highgate planted their flag on the famed Roxburgh vineyard in the Hunter, and for those in the know, it's where the flocks went for their big, bold Chardonnay fix.
For this latest venture - their brand new Barrel Select Chardonnay, they unlocked the real beating heart of the Hunter Valley partnering with Liz Silkman, one of the region’s best known names and the winemaker behind First Creek and her eponymous Silkman range.
This is a richer style Chardonnay with creamy texture, ripe stone fruit, a touch of nuttiness and well-judged oak.
The difference here is the barrel selection. The best barrels were picked out and bottled separately, giving the wine more concentration and depth than your standard rich Chardonnay.
It’s full of flavour, generous without being heavy, and very easy to enjoy now.
If you like Chardonnay with a bit more texture and weight, this is well worth a look.
