As its name suggests, the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Fumé is a smokey, barrel-fermented style. It has plentiful concentration and grilled nut flavours atop pure, clean fruit. The variety's fruity nature has been tamed to present restrained nectarine and citrus, so the oak and fruit feel nicely balanced. The finish is bright and citrus-y with good length and a reassuring firmness. Youthful but well considered, the 2023 will continue to drink well for at least another five years.

Aromas of preserved lemons, hazelnuts, grapefruit and kaffir limes. The palate is light- to medium-bodied with high-tension acidity and generous texture. Well-balanced.

Attractive nose that is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc, fresh, clean tropical notes with a racy acidity, fresh, zippy mouthful. Ripe and generous in style, but still with good, fresh acidity. The palate shows a good concentration of flavour, with some tropical fruit, kiwi and lime. Crystalline structure, very pure, unashamedly fruity while still having focus and freshness. The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is spicy and pungently green on the nose, with sweet pea and even asparagus notes. In the mouth, the wine performs as the bouquet has laid out. The alcohol feels evident, but at 13.5%, it is more likely to be the phenolics that clip and warm the finish. Sealed under screw cap.
