A commanding wine that demands attention and time to unfurl in the glass. It spends nine months in French barriques, 40% new, and that makes a mark – positively – with spice and cedary notes, as there’s power and an intensity to the Gingin fruit within. Although another in year in bottle will see the new oak settle. It’s very smart now with its grapefruit, lemon flavours infused with lemon curd, white pepper and fresh slices of galangal. The acidity is superfine, a little savoury and very moreish.

Delicate lemon pickle, zest and leaf with lightly toasted vanilla bean oak aromas. The palate reveals a lovely long line of fruit, with a swoosh of energy wrapped around its taut core. Mid-weight yet fluid, treading softly with delicate balance of flint, white stone fruit, citrus and crushed quartz. A quietly spoken wine of impact and harmony, with serious depth that persists longer than expected, peeking through on the palate repeatedly. Sublime, restrained and fine-boned with remarkable length. Single-vineyard Gingin clone fruit from Wilyabrup, hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. Barrel-fermented and aged sur lie with no bâtonnage for seven months in 228L French oak barriques.
